When that little bundle of joy was put on your bosom for the first time, werenââ¬â¢t you going through a mixed feeling of joy and panic? Werenââ¬â¢t you overwhelmed when asked to feed your baby for the first time? You must have been even feeling scared and we are sure so was the baby. Do not panic if the breastfeeding sessions donââ¬â¢t go as smoothly as you thought they would. Both your baby and you will need to learn the tricks of the trade. Why should you breastfeed? Breastfeeding is a skill most mothers learn though patience and practice. But does that pain have a gain? Of course, there are plenty of benefits; not just for your baby but for you as well. Breastmilk is easy to digest and it protects your little one from a long list of illnesses. It prevents her from developing allergies, lowers the risk of SIDS and protects her from obesity. In addition to these benefits, breastmilk boosts your newbornââ¬â¢s immunity and intelligence. It benefits you by reducing your stress and the risk of post-natal depression. The more you breastfeed, the easier it is for you to lose your pregnancy weight. When to start breastfeeding? You can start breastfeeding your baby as soon as she is handed over to you after delivery, unless you had a pre-term delivery. Your doctor and the caretakers at the hospital will help you position your baby while feeding and will give you the initial lessons in nursing.
